Bariatric Pre-Surgical Evaluations
It is common for doctors to refer their patients for a pre-surgical evaluation prior to a bariatric surgery procedure. Many people who have eating disorders also struggle with psychological disorders, especially anxiety and depression. It can also be more challenging for those individuals with psychological issues to lose weight or maintain weight loss after bariatric surgery.
Bariatric surgery can be a major life change that can present multiple challenges. Therefore, it’s especially important to address any underlying issues that may arise or worsen after surgery. This begins with a bariatric assessment by Dr. Dees in coordination with your doctor/surgeon.
Dr. Dees will explore your attitudes, behaviors and expectations to better understand your weight loss surgery goals and to help provide supports for your long-term weight loss.
Keep in mind that a psychological evaluation prior to bariatric surgery can help tremendously in helping you to process your emotions and to help establish clear goals for life before and after surgery.
